The Costa Brava is a wonderful family holiday destination. It has it all: good weather, incredible beaches and dreamy coves, pure nature, lively festivals and lots of traditions, towns, monuments, medieval castles and picturesque villages. Its attractions are endless!

Beaches

We cannot begin our list of activities to enjoy with the family without mentioning first the beaches of the Costa Brava. In most coastal towns you can choose between long sandy urban beaches with all the comforts and small coves hidden between rocky cliffs around century-old pine forests. If you want to spend a holiday reading a good book relaxed while the children play in the water under the supervision of the lifeguards, then Tossa is your best option. This old fishing village has beaches with turquoise waters, in a unique and quiet environment.

Another option is Platja d’Aro. Its main beach has a children’s club with qualified instructors who organise activities for the kids. These activities include outdoor sports, water sports and workshops. A perfect alternative for parents to enjoy the beach without worries, while children have a great time.

Natural parks and routes

If you like to enjoy nature in its purest form and reach places where you can only access walking, take note!  The most famous routes are the Camins de Ronda and you can easily recognize them by their two horizontal white and yellow stripes. You will also find several natural parks to choose from. They will give you the opportunity to go hiking with your family, get to know the flora of the area or ride a bike.

An essential natural park of the Costa Brava that you cannot miss is the Cap de Creus. One of the best routes is the Paratge de la Tudela (approximately 2 hours) where you can see curious rocks eroded by the win. They are natural wonders that make anyone’s imagination fly. You can even identify animal forms in them! These landscapes inspired Dalí and will surely captivate you as well.

If you like birds, you can’t miss the natural park Els Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, an oasis for migratory birds. The whole itinerary is very well signposted and allows us to observe the behaviour of the animals in their natural habitat. It is highly recommended to bring binoculars or rent them when entering the park.

The town of Pals is known for being a gateway to the region’s medieval past and for the rice produced by its lands. For more than 5 centuries, the municipality has been growing this cereal around the village. And best of all…. The fields can be visited!

Family Festivals

During the summer months, there are a large number of events to enjoy on the warm nights. As in the rest of Catalonia, every town on Costa Brava celebrates its main festival with the popular fireworks, correfocs, human castles and giants. For this reason, it is important to consult the cultural agenda of the town where you are spending your holidays.

Spectacular gardens

Blanes gutter with two botanical gardens with incredible sea views. The first is the Marimurtra garden, one of the most important attractions of the Costa Brava. The children will love to see how the parrots living in the garden approach them for taking pictures. We must not forget the more than four thousand different plant species.

The second is the garden of Pinya Rosa which has seven thousand species of tropical plants. In addition to acknowledge different types of palm trees, cactus and aloe plants, after the visit, you can enjoy the calm of the wonderful cove of Treumal.
