The city of Estepa (in the province of Seville) is considered the capital of the shortbread (spanish: polvorón). This traditional Christmas dessert has been manufactured in the city for more than a century, there are until today 23 companies involved in manufacturing about 18,000 tons of Christmas sweets per year. This municipality counts with the facilities that pay tribute to this confectionery. You will find in Estepa the Mantecado Museum, owned by the city of Estepa, a museum that represents the origins and development of the shortbread, this artisan confectionery from the early twentieth century.

Aware of the success of the shortbread, Estepa and its company opened in the late 80’s Mantecado museum. In addition, these facilities can also appreciate the old cookbook of all the traditional Christmas sweets.

The museum can be visited all year round, from 9:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 19:00. During the Christmas campaign period is when it becomes more attractive  because of the Estepa Chocolate Bethlehem. The campaign period starts in October and ends in December. The entrance to the museum is free. In case of groups over 10 persons is necessary to book the visit in advance.
