Gastronomy is really at the centre of every culture, as it is deeply rooted in its history and traditions. There is no doubt that if you really want to get to know a culture, you should start by trying its cuisine and discover its delicious traditional dishes!

Along the hundred kilometres of promenade that make up the Costa Brava you will find several charming traditional restaurants where you will really have the opportunity to pamper your palate. Most of these restaurants are specialized in fried fish, “suquet de peix”, local Mediterranean lobster, chicken, snails, “negre” rice, seafood and sea urchins. And if you fancy something sweet, we recommend you try a glass of Garnacha Blanca, “bunyols de vent” or a delicious “crema catalana” (a sweet pudding similar to the French “crème brûlée”).

Some must restaurants on the Costa Brava

El Far, Palafrugell

At the top of a cliff a few metres from the lighthouse on the bay of Llafranc, the restaurant El Far (the lighthouse) has some of the most spectacular panoramic views of the Costa Brava, so it is advisable to go for lunch during the day. As on most of the coast, the menu is made up of fish dishes, but also several meat dishes, as well as “mar i muntanya” options such as meatballs with cuttlefish and Palamós prawns.

Galena Mas Comangau, Begur

This wonderful 19th-century converted farmhouse has good food and a rustic but elegant atmosphere. They have traditional dishes such as paella and delicious tapas but there are also specials that change weekly. During the weekends they offer dinners with live music.
