There are many ways to travel, and cultural tourism is one of them. Here are some suggestions for cultural activities to do in Costa del Sol.

MALAGA

You can not miss the three most important museums in this city:

Pompidou Centre

There are nearly 90 works of modern and contemporary art from the Paris Centre Pompidou installed in Málaga. They are renewed every two and a half years, and there are also two or three temporary exhibitions every year.

Russian Museum

Beyond the Centre Pompidou, Málaga hosts another museum from abroad: it is fortunate to have a small outpost of The St. Petersburg Russian State Museum. This window to Russian art is located in the Tabacalera building.

Museo Picasso Malaga

Pablo Picasso wanted his work be present in the city where he was born, and that became possible thanks to the collaboration between his daughter Christine and and grandson Bernand Ruiz-Picasso. Inside, you can view 233 of his works and it is complemented by temporary exhibitions.

MARBELLA

Bonsai Museum

It might seem odd to find a suggestion to visit a museum devoted to Japanese culture in Spain, but this museum of tiny trees contains one of the finest collections of European bonsai, and the best wild olive tree bonsais in the world. The technique might come from the far east, but the trees are purely Mediterranean.

Old Tow

The history of Al-Andalus is present throughout southern Spain. In Marbella, despite being a modern city that has grown much in recent years, the old town preserves its medieval and arabic essence.Marbella old town

The moragas

You can not miss this festival if you visit Marbella on June 23rd or July 16th. The moragas are parties by night with “pescaíto” (small fried fish) and music on the beach. It is an experience that can only be lived in the south of Spain.moragas malaga cultural activites

BENALMÁDENA

Bil-Bil Castle

The castle near the port stands out despite not being very big. It has a recognizable arabic and moorish style, which combines elements of Christian and Moorish art. Red on the outside, with bas-reliefs, gardens and fountains… But not all that glitters is gold: this building was built in 1927 and acquired by an American family who settled there to live. Today it serves as a venue for events, weddings and exhibitions and also houses a tourist office.

Butterfly Park of Benalmadena

In this zoo devoted to butterflies you will find up to 1,500 exotic species, as well as other animals and of course, caterpillars. Butterflies live for only 15 days, so every two weeks there are completely new butterflies to see. The area is nice, with gardens, waterfalls, flowers… an ideal family trip!

Museum of Pre-Columbian art

In this museum you will find ancient handicrafts from Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, Colombia and Ecuador before Columbus reached the Americas. The exhibition focuses mainly on Mesoamerica (Mexico) and the central Andes region (Peru).
